Yoga : The Essence of Life

 

Yoga has for centuries held the power to attract people toward it. Yoga poses have such an appeal to them that they have enchanted spiritual leaders and high society people alike. The people practicing yoga feeling very active, fit and healthy. Besides according various health benefits to the body, yoga also enlightens our mind and makes us spiritually strong. As a result, yoga helps us to face all the challenges of life.

Yogic Science
It is believed that the yogic science, as it is better known, was composed and compiled by Ancient Indian saints, under the guidance of the Gods. We call it science as the ancients found that the postures are designed from a proper scientific basis. According to the Yogic theory, we can achieve an ultimate state of perfect health, if our mind, body and soul are in harmony with each other. This is exactly, what Yoga aim to achieve through postures and breathing exercises.

Contemporary complications
Yoga has stood the test of time, and it is serving the contemporary world, which abounds with stress and numerous ailments. Most of the diseases such as, blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems including psychological disease such as depression are stress related. Another modern-day culprit is our stressful lifestyle, which plays havoc on our body. Yoga reduces the affect of stress from our mind and relaxes our muscles, thus providing overall health benefits.

Yoga-advantage
Yoga is especially beneficial for students who want the advantage of a sharper memory and attentiveness. It can relieve us of pains in various parts of the body. It does wonders for the internal organs, especially the functioning of heart and intestines. Yoga has a positive impact on our nervous system, respiratory system and circulatory system as well.

Yoga is one of the rare exercises that does not tire or exhaust you, while providing various health benefits. Even beginners do not find it difficult to learn, as yoga instructors teach it in an easy and a systematic manner, which makes learning a more simple process. Here are some basic yoga postures:

Basic Yoga Postures
Given below are the names and description of some of the simple asanas or postures. Do not forget to concentrate as much as possible while doing theses asanas.

· Sukhasana is the simplest yoga asana. Its name also translates into ‘easy pose’. You simply need to sit cross-legged to do this asana. It gives peace to our body and mind and can help form a basis for our general well being.

· Talasana in Sanskrit means the pose of the palm tree. In this asana, we have to stretch our entire body upward. It is useful for growing children and helps to increase their height.

· Konasana is good for the suppleness of all our muscles. One has to stretch one’s legs apart and bend from side to side to perform this asana.

· Chakrasana translates into the ‘wheel pose’. It needs little practice to perfect this pose. It is beneficial for your backbone and helps relieve back pains.

· Bhadrasana is beneficial for our lower body parts such as, pelvis, thighs and groin. Bhadrasana means the ‘Throne Pose’.

· Sirsha asana involves, standing upside down on your head. It is a very useful pose and benefits the entire body and mind.

· Natraja Asana has its inspiration from the posture of Lord Shiva in the dancing position. It is helpful in increasing focus in mind and poise in body.

Once a beginner is familiar with these simple poses, you can proceed to the more complex ones. Even at this stage, you will have a feeling of exhilaration and a sense of union with the supreme Power.
