Staying Fit through Yoga
People who are active in their lives are mentally alert and physically fit.
They exude confidence. Typically, a person who is not active is not alert, not mentally
and/or physically fit. He/she is prone to disease and is more likely to be
overweight. Some of these people will be able to learn yoga postures to aid in
weight reduction.
Going for morning walk, playing games like basketball, badminton, squash etc or
doing physical exercises in a gym help in reducing weight and keeping oneself
fit because of the aerobic activity. However, there are many people who cannot
play games because they are too heavy. For them yoga is a good
alternative.
It is also good for those who can play games to do yoga.
Yoga – Building Harmony between Mind and Body
Yoga is an ancient Indian philosophy practiced for centuries which helps in
building harmony between the mind and the body. It aids in relieving tension and
stress from your body. It can strengthen your muscles and build your resistance.
It helps you to remain calm.
Yoga has a wide variety of forms to choose from. Beginners should be careful in
selecting the right yoga pose and should do the exercises slowly under the
guidance of a qualified instructor. It takes time to understand and master the
technique of getting the right yoga pose. With diligence you can master the
technique in a similar manner as acquired by an expert. Only after acquiring the
basic skills one should proceed to more advance classes of yoga. Do not expect
miracles from yoga immediately. You have to be patient as it takes time to build
endurance.
Requirements to Perform Yoga
You do not have to invest anything in doing yoga; the only thing you require is
your clothes, a mat and the desire to benefit from the yoga exercises. You must
find time to practice yoga regularly, preferably 3 to 4 times per week, to
accrue the maximum benefits from it.
Yoga can be for everyone. Anybody can do it. It is useful for pregnant women
also, but they are advised to be careful in exerting themselves for their own
safety and the safety of the child yet to be born. They should not stretch too
much and should do the exercises very slowly under the watchful eyes of the
instructor. They should take proper rest in between the exercises and never
strain.
Yoga can be done anywhere including a gym. You can also try out a sports
facility offering yoga classes. Some people do not have the time to go out for
yoga classes in gyms or other yoga classes due to their occupations. These
people can practice yoga at home with the help of a yoga video.
There are many other alternative forms of yoga such as Yoga Booty Ballet
and Bikram Yoga.
Do not jump in to doing yoga straight away just because you can benefit from it.
You may not be fit to do yoga or you may not be able to do certain to types of
yoga poses. Get yourself medically examined and you should strictly go by the
doctor’s advice. Yoga can be harmful also if done against your doctor’s advice
and without the supervision of a yoga instructor.
