Tips for Choosing Yoga Clothes

Yoga is a non-competitive activity. It helps you to be one with your inner self. Your breath and weight help your body to gradually ease into tougher poses. It gives you a sense of discipline and feeling of high when you are able to accomplish the various postures.

It de-stresses and relaxes aching muscles.A sense of well-being permeates your whole being. Attitude is the key to commence the benefits of yoga in your life at any age. Once you see the difference it brings to your life, it's easy to get hooked.

Conditions and Equipment
Ideally, a qualified instructor is teaching you yoga. It should be practiced in the open air or a well-ventilated room, free from noises, pets or any other distractions. Initially, if you get distracted while meditating, do not get frustrated. Instead gently guide your thoughts and focus on your breathing.

Then relax the body and bring it back to position. Use non-skid rugs or slightly cushioned rubber mats to cushion your body. Bare feet are best for they keep you in contact with floor for better balance of the poses. A full-length mirror helps in correction of posture and to gain a perspective on your body alignment.

Yoga Clothing
There are no prescribed clothes or uniform for yoga. Ancient Indian yogis used to wear just a loincloth while practicing physical exercises. The basic aim is to make yourself comfortable while moving with your body. The clothes should be free flowing, non-binding on the waist and should not interfere with your breathing. The garment should be sweat-absorbent to constantly cool your body.

Since yoga focuses totally on body movements, with long muscle stretches, deep bending, twisting and free movements, it becomes very important to wear the clothes that allow you to move freely. Too loose a garment will impede the movement by entangling your body, or it will carry wind and flow in all directions causing an impediment.

Clothes that are too tight constrict blood circulation or cut off the air supply, leaving you breathless and tired. Tight clothing can result in injury and strained muscles. So it becomes very important to have yoga clothes made of stretch material that follow the body movements with ease without restraining your muscles.

Clothing Material
Yoga poses can be very strenuous, leading to lot of sweat. Cotton or any natural fiber absorbs sweat and moisture thus letting your body breathe more comfortably. They should be slightly loose fitting. Material that is heat absorbent will trap the sweat and heat up your body leading to discomfort. Trapped moisture can give rise to various skin ailments thus nullifying the benefit of yoga.

Functionality
Yoga clothes should be very functional to allow for flexibility of movement. Try on clothes in the fitting room first. Stretch your arms, try a few poses and check your comfort level. The clothes should fit and move with the body. Avoid a size that is either one size too large or too small.

Durability and Design
The clothes should be attractively designed for that ‘feel-good’ feeling and made of good material that does not shrink or lose shape with a wash.

Budget
Yoga clothes in essence are your gym clothes. They need to be practical, comfortable and durable. They need not be expensive or designer labeled to derive the benefit of poses.

A comfortable set of attractive natural fiber yoga dress will add enjoyment to your yoga practice.
